Additional Info: Vladimir DOUNIN belongs to the famous Russian school of piano playing. The basic idea of this school is that “piano is not for hammering but for singing”. He is graduated from Moscow State Conservatory and St. Petersburg State Conservatory (Ph.D.) “with distinction”, he was one of the winners of All-USSR Piano Competition ( Kiev 1970).

Vladimir worked as a touring and recording artist with many of the best performers of different styles (classic, folk, jazz etc.) in Russia and abroad. For a many years he was a Vocal Coach, Chorus Master, Music Director at Opera Theatres and Opera companies in Russia and abroad. Presently he combines Concert-, Recording- and Teaching work in Toronto ON , Canada . He teaches Piano, Vocal, Theory and Composition.

If students want to get high marks, they have to play right notes on right time. This is obvious. As any well educated and experienced teacher, Vladimir knows a lot of effective ways and shortcuts to solve successfully all these routine technical and rhythmical problems.

However, if we want our music to be beautiful, we have to know more about each note: which notes should be louder, and which notes should be softer. It is as necessary as saying words with the right stressing: “tomOrrow”, “todAy”, “yEsterday”, but not “tomorrOw”, “tOday”, “yestErday” etc. Vladimir knows the way to teach this important side of performance as well. Vladimir offers guarantee that ANY student of any age and level will play (the song he/she is able to play, according to the level) beautifully not after years, months etc. of practicing but “right now”, at the end of the first lesson. This guarantee is valid, only if student really wants to play beautifully and is willing to follow and work hard, of course.

The basic principle of Vladimir ’s teaching is “multiple choices” instead of popular “do, like I do”.
Vladimir shows and explains the possible ways to perform some selected section of music, and students have to make decision: which ones they like most, and which ones they dislike. After the “musical goals” are set, Vladimir shows the shortest way to desired result.

Ability to play beautifully brings joy and fun even while routine practicing; guarantees success in concerts, talent shows, exams and competitions for every student.
