Additional Info: My most-loved profession is that of pianist. Strictly a classical musician who studied at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, I prize my ability to be a collaborative pianist, and a private teacher (particularly to students who begin their piano instruction with me--or another very good classical teacher--as proper piano technique is ideally learned early in the student's piano education).

In my work with young musicians, I am serious about students' piano education--and, at the same time, I have a fun (and even, sometimes, silly) approach to teaching because (1) I adore children--my 5th-grade child is a talented 'cellist, whose young orchestra I've enjoyed accompanying; and my preschooler is quite musical, and enjoys "improvising" interesting piano duets with me); and (2) I know the great importance of fun in capturing and retaining young students' interest and motivation.

Also during my career, I've taught adult beginners, whom I greatly respect for pursuing their personal interests amidst their other time commitments and any nay-sayers they come across.

Regardless of students' ages, I respect them as the individuals they are, with their unique needs, interests, and situations--and I ("teacher") value the opportunity to learn from my students all I can.

My teaching studio is currently undergoing a huge change: the vintage Steinway grand (upon which I am privileged to teach) is undergoing greatly-anticipated restorative work. Until that is completed--most likely by December 2014--I'm happy to travel to my students, to provide lessons at the piano upon which they practice--or to any other suitable venue.

After the Steinway work is complete, students will continue their studies at my studio, which is very accessible by car and even Metro--I live in Ballston, along the Orange and Silver Lines--and depending upon where you live, via walking and bicycling! (But, in special situations, I'll be happy to consider continuing to travel to my students to provide their lessons.)

Music theory and history are important components of my lessons, despite the primary focus on playing/performance. Regardless, I tailor each student's instruction to her/his goals and needs (and--in respect to young students--to their parents' expectations, as well).

I aim to provide piano instruction to any student who desires to learn about music, so I offer full and partial lesson scholarships based on both the prospective student's desire to learn and their need for partial or complete assistance with my usual lesson fees. (So, please, do not let lesson costs deter you from contacting me!)
Fees: While my fees are competitive for the area, they vary in accordance with certain factors. (For example, some of my students take their lessons at their own homes.) HOWEVER, I aim to provide piano instruction to any student who desires to learn about music, so I offer full and partial lesson scholarships based on both the prospective student's desire to learn and their need for partial or complete assistance with my usual lesson fees. (So, please, do not let lesson costs deter you from contacting me!)
Will Teach: Beginners, Intermediate Grades, Advanced Grades, Adult Beginners
