Additional Info: Matthew is currently a deputy piano tutor at the RNCM Junior School (Manchester) and visiting piano teacher at Wrekin College (Shropshire): fully CRB-checked. He is also employed by the RNCM as a part-time accompanist to singing tutors. He began teaching the piano in 2000 in Melbourne, Australia, where he often assisted in teaching some of Max Cooke’s private pupils.

During his professional training as a Junior Fellow at the RNCM, Matthew gained considerable experience in coaching chamber music, accompanying and also mentoring undergraduate students enrolled on the piano pedagogy course. He continues to run his private teaching practice in England, preparing pupils of all ages for graded examinations from the level of Grade 1 right through to Diploma. Apart from teaching the ABRSM examination syllabus, Matthew strongly encourages his pupils to learn to play music for pleasure.

For several years running since 2000, Matthew has been regularly invited to assist in teaching masterclasses with the Team of Pianists to younger pianists as part of the Australian National Piano Award (Shepparton). He has also been a co-teacher in workshops culminating in the Bernstein Piano Competition held at Bernies Music Land (Melbourne). Matthew has also often joined forces with Max Cooke in giving masterclasses at Universiti Malaya (Kuala Lumpur), Allegro Music School (Kuala Lumpur) and International Music House (Borneo). He was an adjudicator on the panel of judges for the HSBC International Classic Piano Festival 2008 (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre), a competition for advanced pianists of ages 26 and under.

An article Matthew wrote (entitled THE BIG PICTURE) for the “Piano Professional”, the sister magazine of EPTA (European Piano Teachers Association) was published in the January Spring Edition 2010.
