Additional Info: Born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1981, Akiko Murakami began her first musical training at the age of five. At the age of 12, she was accepted to the Juilliard School Pre-College Division where she studied in the class of Herbert Stessin. From an early age she performed in New York at venues such as the Weill Recital Hall and New York Steinway Hall.

After graduating from the Toho Gakuen College Music Department with a Bachelor’s degree in 2003, from 2004–2007 she studied in Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Budapest in the class of Balázs Szokolay and Atilla Némethy for further post-graduate studies. From 2008 she undertook an MA degree at the Royal Academy of Music under distinguished pianists and professors Pascal Nemirovski and Hamish Milne. She is a recipient of the Toba Mann Award. She recently gained distinction in her Final Piano Recital, for which she was highly commended for the Lloyds Hartley Prize. She has performed in many venues in Tokyo, Budapest, and London, not only as a soloist, but also as a chamber musician.

Akiko has attended many international music festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival (U.S.A) in 1994–1996, the Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy and Festival (Japan) in 1998, and the International Bartók Seminar and Festival in 2007.

She has worked with many acclaimed musicians in masterclasses including Pascal Devoyon, Lilya Ziberstein, Balázs Szokolay, Péter Nagy, Aquiles Delle Vigne and Ferenc Rados.

In 2006 Akiko received the Prix Spécial du Meilleur Interprète de Musique Romantique in the Concours International de Piano Son Altesse Royal La Princesse Lalla Meryem, and in 2009 received a Special Mention Prize at the Concours International de Piano de Lagny-sur-Marne, as well as a diploma in the Tokyo Music Competition.
